Spiritual Gifts |
Upon receiving the Lord Jesus as our
Lord and Savior, the Bible teaches us several important truths about
the ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
1. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the
GODHEAD.
John 14:16,17 - He (the Holy Spirit) is one of the same kind with
Jesus.
They are both God.
2 Corinthians 3:17
- “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is liberty.”
2. The Holy Spirit dwells within the BELIEVER.
Romans 8:9 - “However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit,
if indeed the Spirit of
God dwells in you. But if anyone does not
have the Spirit of Christ, he
does not belong to Him.”
I Corinthians 6:19,20 - “Or do you not know that your body is a
temple of the Holy
Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and
that you are not your own? For you
have been bought with a price:
therefore glorify God in you body.”
3. The Holy Spirit gives to us spiritual gifts to
be used for the BUILDING UP of
the Body of Christ.
(Romans 12:3-8; 1
Corinthians 12 and 14; 1 Peter 4:10-11)
Ephesians 4:11-13 - “And He
gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some
as
evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of
the saints for the
work of service, to the building up of the body
of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of
the faith, and of the
knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of
the
stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.”
If we are to serve the Lord
with effectiveness and fruitfulness, we must understand the
importance of our spiritual gift or gifts. The full potential of a
life, a marriage, a family, or a church will not be experienced
until there is a clear, biblical understanding of spiritual gifts.
For this reason Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12:1 - “Now concerning
spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.”
Spiritual gifts are divine
enablements that are given by God to believers to be used in the
Church to accomplish His work.
