Gonzales
Baptist Church was organized on July 7, 1907. The church
body
consisted of 8 families, with a total number of 17 members.
The church first met in the "Old Woodmen Hall", pictured at
left.

Soon after, in 1909, Gonzales Baptist Church built its first
worship
center, pictured at right. The facility was 25 x 40 feet in
size, and cost 550 dollars. This building was lost in a
hurricane, and was rebuilt at approximately the same size to
house
the church's now 53 member congregation.
|
| From 1924
to 1952, the church then utilized a worship center located on E.
Ascension St. The congregation built a new
sanctuary, but it burned down only 6 years after being built. The picture to the left is what was left
of the
sanctuary's exterior. To the right is a view of the
steeple,
hanging upside down in the main entryway of the church.
