As children of
God, we have the joyful privilege and awesome responsibility of
praising Him as Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer, Lord, and King. We
praise Him because His inspired Word, the Bible, tells us that He
is worthy of our praise and nothing else is. We praise Him because
as true worshipers (John 4:23) we prize Him above all things. Our
goal for music ministry at First Baptist Church is to facilitate
true praise, adoration, and worship of Holy God for all believers
who will covenant together with us as to follow hard after the
Lord Jesus Christ.
In addition to singing praise
to God because of who He is and because of all that He is for us
in Christ, we are also instructed by the psalmist to sing of His
ways (Psalms 138:5). That is, we must sing about the godly life
that God desires to bring about in us. Our music should inspire
our growth in the "grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18) as well as our obedience to His
commands (1 John 5:3).
We also sing as a witness to
the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. The psalmist said it
this way, "I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; with my
mouth I will make known Your faithfulness through all generations"
(Psalm 89:1). We believe as Christ is lifted up in song that He
will draw sinners in need of the Savior to Himself.
Opportunities for Ministry through Music:
At First Baptist Church,
we truly desire to minister through this wonderful gift of music.
SANCTUARY CHOIR is for
adults (18 or older) who feel that God is leading them to minister
through music. No audition is required, only a willingness to be
committed to consistent rehearsal with the choir and a desire to
glorify the Lord with your singing.
THE PRAISE TEAM is another
important part of our music ministry at First Baptist Church. This
is an audition-only group that requires good sight-reading skills
and a high degree of independence in one's musicianship. The
ability to learn music quickly is a must for this group. Those
interested in this area of music ministry should schedule an
appointment with the minister of music.
We encourage you to use your
gifts to glorify the Lord, as the scripture says, by "continually
offering to God a sacrifice of praise" (Hebrews 13:15). And we do
want to assist you in doing just that.
