| This page is a brief tutorial and background on
streaming audio.
One of the great features of fbcg.net is the streaming audio
section. In this section of the site, you'll be able to listen
to recent sermons and request archived sermons selected by the Pastoral
Staff. Before you dive into the audio, there are a few things you
might need to know about streaming.
Most of
the sermons preached on Sunday mornings will be available on the
fbcg.net site. If you would like a copy of a sermon preached during
a different time, or of a sermon that has not been made available,
you can request that sermon by emailing the church staff
here.
You may specify any media type or format you'd like (tape, CD, mp3,
etc.).
Streaming is a term used to describe the way your computer
handles the data it receives from the internet. Usually, a computer
downloads information from the internet in a complete unit, called a
file. Computers handle data in many different types of
files. But streaming allows the computer to begin using data
before the whole file is downloaded. This is extremely useful
for hearing sound or watching video over the internet.
In order to hear the sound files, you need a program on your
computer capable of playing the file. This program must also
be able to handle streaming audio. We strongly recommend Windows
Media Player version 7 or higher. Other players may work, but
we've designed the audio portion of the website with Windows Media
Player in mind. To get the latest version of Media Player,
If you download the player, but you still have problems streaming
the audio, you may have to adjust the player options.
Our audio files are stored on the internet in .mp3 format.
This means that the size of the file you're listening to is
relatively low. That's important for those who are streaming
the audio using a dial-up connection. You can also save the mp3's to
playback later, without being connected to the internet. To do
this, right click the sermon, and then click "Save Target
As".
You'll then just need to double-click the file to play it back
later. Be aware, however, that dial-up users will have a long
download time. Our sermon audio is available to download free
of charge.
