FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH GONZALES

First Baptist Church Gonzales is pleased to offer a Seminary Certificate program for those interested in furthering their theological education.  This new initiative is in cooperation with and under the guidelines of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS).  The courses offered are fully accredited and can be applied as elective hours toward an Associates or Bachelors degree at NOBTS.  Additionally, those who complete the eight course certificate program will be allowed to participate in the commencement exercises at the seminary in New Orleans. This program is available to all persons who have a high school degree or its equivalent.

Monday, August 9, 2010 will be the start of the next class. We will meet for seven class sessions with the course concluding on Monday, October 4, 2010.  See schedule below.

COURSE OFFERED AUGUST 9^TH:    INTRODUCTION TO OLD TESTAMENT STUDY
The course is designed to provide a survey of the Old Testament. The study consists of a brief overview of each book, including pertinent geographical and historical information.

TEACHER:  Dr. James B. Law will be teaching this course. Dr. Law has been senior pastor of First Baptist Church Gonzales since 1993. His educational credentials are: University of Kentucky, B.A. (1988); New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, M.Div. (1991) and Ph.D (1994).  (Other professors will teach courses related to their field of expertise when appropriate.)

COST:       Each course is $100 with a one-time registration fee of $25.  Course

                  registration will take place at the first class on August 9^th at which time

                  payment will be due.

TEXT:     The student should also anticipate the purchase of a textbook at the first

                  class.  The text for this course is A Popular Survey of the Old Testament

                  by Norman L. Geisler and can be purchased online (Amazon, CBD).

PASTORAL MINISTRY CERTIFICATE:  The certificate program being offered is the Pastoral Ministry Certificate.  The purpose of the Pastoral Ministry Certificate is to provide training for ministers in the areas of pastoral work, doctrine, biblical interpretation, and Christian education.  The program is also designed for training lay leaders for ministry within their local churches.  Church members with a desire for theological education and training are encouraged to enroll in this certificate program.
